The Good Fight

During the 11am service of Breathe 08, David George preached about the good fight of faith.  I think most christians don’t want a fight.  We have such a mentality in our country and in our churches that when it is no longer fun I don’t want to do it any longer.  God didn’t call us to be quitters, He called us to be more than conquerors.  In order for us to be that we must fight.  You have to fight your thoughts, your doubts, your fears, your worries, and your discouragement.  It is a constant fight but it is one worth fighting and worth winning.  The bible says that heaven and earth shall pass away but God’s word will endure forever.  The more I feed my mind God’s word, the stronger I become and the better fighter that I am.  The word of God is to the fighting believer what good nutrition is to a top level athlete, it is imperative.  What are you feeding the warrior inside of you?  Are we on a starvation diet or are we getting the spiritual food that we need?  If we just rely on Sunday and Wednesday, we will become weak and sickly spiritually speaking.  The word of God is what gets us through the battles we face.  If I have learned one thing in my 13 month battle with cancer, it is the importance of the word in my life.  It is my confession, it is what I stand on.  God is not a man that He should lie.  What He said in his word, He will do.

We knew that Breathe ‘08 was a Kiros time for our church, but we had no idea of all that God would do.  Every service was right on for our church and for those who were in attendance.  It was amazing.  I have to say this, I’m so proud of our church, our volunteers, our musicians, our singers, and our staff.  It was a great week, but it was a tiring week also.  Yet every night the people just kept coming and coming and coming.  I’m so proud of my church and what God is doing in us.  I’m especially proud of my wife Melissa.  She preached the last message of the conference.  What a powerful message that was so timely for where we are not just in the life of our church, but also in the life of our nation right now.  If you missed it I encourage you to listen to it on our web site or get the pobcast off of itunes.  Thanks God for all you are doing!

We knew that God wanted to do some great things during Breathe…but WOW what a way to start!  David George brought 2 different words to our church.  It was an incredible start to a great week.  There is such a hunger in our church.  The altars were full of people seeking God.  We had some wonderful friends show up and share this day with us.  I can’t wait until Bishop Bolin speaks tomorrow night.  This is a “Kiros” moment for our church.  Breathe on us again God!

Yes it’s been a while

Yes I know it’s been a while.  Oh well here goes.  A lot has happened at CP since my last blog.  Wesley and Jessica have moved to Augusta GA to start Oasis Church.  You can check out their progress at myoasis.tv.  We are so proud of them and we miss them, but I know they are doing what God called them to do, they are chasing their lion.  We have hired a new Minister of Music.  His name is Matthew McCarty.  His is married to Kristin, and they have a 5 month old beautiful little girl.  They are dong a great job and are fitting in like hand and glove.  This weekend we are hosting our first conference since I have been the Pastor at CP.  It’s called Breathe 08.  The name comes from a prophecy that Dutch Sheets gave over LaGrange in 2002.  God said that He wanted to breathe on our region again.  I’m just crazy enough to believe He meant what He said.  It starts Sunday morning and goes through Wednesday night.  The speakers are David George, Jim Bolin, Stan Lester, and my wife Melissa will finish it out on Wednesday.  We are so excited about what God is going to do.  We have sold our house and are beginning construction on our house here.  It has been said that September is a “Suddenly” month.  We have seen God do some amazing things and we have an expectancy for more.  God is incredible.

What a Day!!!!!

Wow…what a day!  Today at church was one of the greatest days I have ever had as Pastor here at Callaway Park.  The worship was intense, we went into the presence of God in a way we haven’t in a long time.  There was such a flow, it’s hard to describe.  I had a friend of mine Harold Woodsen in to preach today.  He called me about a month ago and told me that God had given him a word for our church.  I have to admit when I hear this I am usually skeptical, so I called him and had him tell me what it was.  The more he talked, the more the Spirit of God began to impress me this was for our church.  Oh my…it was awesome!  So many people came up to me and Missy both and said that this was just what we needed.  It was a word in season.  I thank God for Harold’s obedience.  In the second service he did something crazy, he signed his honorarium check and gave it back to the church.  I have only had one other speaker do that.  It was a great day all around.  He came as a servant and poured into our church in so many ways.  God, bless your servant Harold Woodsen.  Look out LaGrange, God is moving at Callaway Park

Well I finally did it.  I joined facebook.  Wow there is a whole world of social networking out there.  I was able to connect with a guy from high school.  He lives in NC, had an awesome encounter with God and now is in full time ministry. If you are on facebook, give me a shout.  Having a great time in Fl on vacation.  God is awesome!  I’m doing some study on the Holy Spirit for an upcoming series starting on July 27.  I’m learning so much.  I can’t wait to share with our church what I’m learning and seeing about the Holy Spirit.  It is going to be great.

Ticked @ Satan

I would love to use another word besides ticked, but my religious upbringing won’t let me write it.  I do say it from time to time, but not on the web.  We didn’t get the report we wanted from the Doctor today.  Some of the tumors in my lungs have grown and well as some new ones have appeared.  I have been doing a daily confession of the word, not in a ritual sense, but by faith.  I still know that I will be healed and delivered from this test.  I could tell in my body that things were changing and not for the good.  The Doctor confirmed this…but neither Missy or I are shook.  The battle is the Lord’s, all we have to do is to stand in faith and let our profession be heard.  My Doctor is working on treatment options.  Right now he is suggesting chemo and radiation.  Normally they don’t use radiation in the way they would use it on me, but my Doctor constantly says that I am not the typical patient.  He is always talking about how strong I am and how well I have tolerated the treatments I have had.  ALL OF THIS IS BECAUSE OF GOD!!!!  I know this without a doubt.  To all my friends reading this, be strong, God is going to see us through this.  Thanks in advance for your prayers.  God is the only way we have made it, and He will see us through.  We leave tomorrow for our vacation to FL.  Pray we have traveling mercy and rest for our family.  Pray for our children we have not told them the news we got since we are still at the treatment center.

What a great life it is when you walk with God!!!!!!!!

What a Great Day

Sorry that I haven’t posted in a while, but here goes.  We had a great day today.  We had a visiting band lead us in worship today.  They are called Products of Faith…they were great.  It was a nice change of pace for our musicians and singers to have a Sunday off where they could sit and enjoy a service.  If any Pastors are reading this I would highly recommend these guys. I preached a message about Blind Bartimaeus and how he threw off his cloak and ran to Jesus.  He had to throw off the thing that identified him for what was wrong with him.  Had a great response especially in the second service. But the highlight of the day for me was some friends of ours from Trinity Chapel came to visit.  One of the couples that visited, Jamaine and Paula Tucker were on staff with us at Trinity.  They are leaving in a couple of weeks to plant a church in Bermuda.  Jamaine is from Bermuda and he leaves tomorrow night.  For them to spend their last Sunday here with us touched us more than I can say.  They are special friends that God hooked us up with about 4 or 5 years ago.  You know in the Kingdom of God nothing is by chance.  Pay attention to the relationships that God brings into your life.  Guard them and take care of them, they are friendships that truly last an eternity.  Pray for us, I am having a routine PET scan this Tuesday to see what is happening in my lungs with my battle with cancer.  I know that by His stripes I am healed!

Can’t do it alone

Today I saw once again the importance of team work.  I was having a treatment for my cancer today.  As usual, the treatment room was pretty full. As I was sitting there trying to make sense of where I am in the battle I’m fighting, I noticed one of my nurses Joann, Jo for short trying her best to communicate with a couple on the other side of the room.  It was an elderly couple who could speak no english.  She was trying to remember her high school French to no avail.  The older couple was from haiti and could only speak creole.  Finally Jo understood that the man was feeling sick.  They got him to the bathroom just in time.  Then I saw it.  Jo was not alone.  The other nurses all sprang into action helping Jo in this situation.  It’s a beautiful thing when we all use our gifts to help others.  There were things that Jo needed help with and others pitched in and did, and there were things that only Jo could do and she did her part.  It was so neat to see this.  I love it all the more when I see it in the church.  When we use our gifts together to minister to each other and to a hurting world.  Don’t sit on your gift…let God use you and the gift that he gave you.  If you don’t know how…just ask
